About the Janice Thompson Performance Trust
The JTPTrust is an Educational Charity. Its aim is to promote, improve, develop and widen public education and appreciation of vocal music through classes, workshops and presentation of recitals and concerts.
The Trust is managed by four voluntary Trustees and a voluntary Executive Committee. The Chairman is Jonathan Young, Deputy Head of Swindon's Greendown School, and the Trust Patron is international singing teacher, Miss Mollie Petrie.
Classes and events are organised by the Director, Janice Thompson, MA LRAM ATCL, plus assistant team-teachers, accompanists and child manager, Sue Herbert. In addition to its work as a training establishment for young singers, the Trust runs a scheme to develop Young Arts Leaders, enabling our more advanced teenagers to work voluntarily alongside established teachers during classes, as well as giving them the opportunity to conduct, accompany and lead activities.
The Junior and Youth Vocal Training classes are open to all singers within the Swindon area and there are presently 100 children in classes and 50 in choral and ensemble groups. The Trust is keen to establish links with communities and schools in the local area. Recent community links have included the Trust Scholarship Class, funded by GWRKids and the Ernest Cooke Fund, and the appearance of the Ruskin Junior School Choir at the Trust Summer Gala Concert in July 2009.
Annual public events include two Christmas Concerts, A spring competitive Festival and Cabaret, and a summer Wyvern Gala Concert. Events are managed by Trustee Matt Fox, plus a team of volunteers. This year Matt lead the Trust's ‘Young Adult Performers' in the organisation and performance of the acclaimed musical, 'Into the Woods' by Stephen Sondheim.
The Trust Concert Choir is an auditioned group for girls ages 14 - 20 years and and other recent developments include a mixed Youth Choir and Youth Opera. We also host occasional complementary discipline and adult vocal workshops.
The Trust is proud to have singers in the National Youth Choirs and our own Concert Choir reached the national finals of ‘Music for Youth' in 2004. The Trust is delighted to have made it through to the finals of the 2007 'Music for Youth' competition in both the Senior and Junior categories.
Individuals from the Trust have appeared in British Youth Opera and in West End productions.
We welcome all singers who join us and we look forward to working with you.
